A lot like the beautiful ‘Bloomsbury Set’ fashion story in October’s Vogue, but cheaper! For some reason the website won’t take my payment. I can’t quite face telephoning Missouri at the moment, but will probably give them a try tomorrow, to find out if they will ship to England.
Last weekend I bought a couple of yards of printed silk (big red and pink roses on a black ground) and a paper pattern for a long-sleeved, knee-length dress, scoop-necked, ruche-breasted. I will wear it with the purple paisley tights and black, round-toed heels, and nobody will be able to distinguish me from Virginia Woolf.

The infuriation of making a special trip to Marks & Spenser to stock up on black tights for the winter only to find they have a vast selection: but none, none in a medium size. It also proved nearly impossible to buy a seamless, unpadded black bra in my size. And is it my imagination, or do shoes always sell out in size 39 first too?
Boots came to the rescue for tights. And the nice lingerie shop in Turnham Green, Second Skin, for the bra – I spent more money than I should have on it.
This afternoon I am going to make a chunky vegetable soup with barley, to use up all the veg in my fridge before they go flabby, which is what generally happens. Also because it is a dank grey autumn day, and perfect for such.
