Five more things about me
8. My real name is not Amelia Raitte. My real name is Anna. Amelia Raitte is a pseudonym, the name of a character in a story my husband wrote. I asked him if I could use it. If you say it out loud, it sounds like 'ameliorate', which means, to make or become better.
9. I can ride a horse. By which I mean I am a horsewoman, not that I can sit on a horse without falling off.
10. By day, I am a copywriter for charities. That means I write junkmail, but charity junkmail. I get paid, the charity gets paid, everyone's happy. One day I will get a full-time knitting gig.
11. I am from a long line of liberals, of which I am proud.
12. I take things to heart. Very much.

Comments
I had wondered about the Amelia Raitte and had never gotten around to asking. Now I am saying it out loud repeatedly.
An excellent distinction re: horsewomanship by the way, and long live the liberals!

You need to knit yourself some riding pants to go with the new jacket. They're supposed to look tight, aren't they?

Oh wow, I just stumbled upon your blog & had to look through the whole thing, everything you make &/or design is gorgeous, & I like all your comments too. Can you put up pics of your sewing projects too? (or is that not allowed on a knitting blog?) or are they somewhere else? Sorry for all my over-enthusiastic rambling...

I can sit on a horse without falling off...I think! :-)

Aha now the confusion is over, I had to check your emails and saw you signed Anna, but couldn't understand the blog name. One day soon you WILL have that full time knitting gig. (Did you do what you said?????)

Confession: I have sat on a horse and fallen off. Not pretty. That being said I love horses but am decidedly not a "horsewoman" although I did have a pony growing up - her name was Misty. We won an apple bobbing contest at the pony rodeo thingy. Of course our victory hinged more on my excellent apple bobbing skills than my horsemanship.

I'm sure your knitting gig will come sooner than later....:)

Oh, I can tell by this post I wasn't the only one who thought your name was Amelia... thank goodness. After you explained that to me in an email, I was quite chagrined to not have figured it out on my own.
I too am from a long line of liberals- thank goodness! At least we can check off one potential source of family argument, eh?

And there was me thinking that your pseudonymous surname was pronounced like the Indian side-dish, raita...

I love the ameliorate thing - there's a word for those kind of words, isn't there? Like Diagon Alley in Harry Potter (which also took me a long time to 'get'). Must say words out loud more often.
I'm sure your full time knitting gig is not too far away.

With a beautiful jacket like that on your design belt, you are well on your way to a knitting gig!
I too am a horsewoman, although one in disguise at the moment as I am horse-less.

Woo hoo! I just came out on my name this week too, and it's nice to know I'm not the only blogger with naming duplicacies.
Although I do like your's very much - Ameliorate... nice work..

Great post, I love learning more about the person behind the knitting! As for "fake names", every reasonable person has at least one. And yes, one day you WILL get a full time knitting gig -- if you want it, and work at it, it will come. You have an obvious talent and passion, which cannot be ignored.

Hi Anna,
I bought the Enchanted Castle and the Gnomes/Faries way back when... the Farmyard is a new acquisition (on CD) from another blogger. The books are by Jan Messent and really fabulous. I could send you a scan if you like...
p.s. LOVE Sgt. Pepp!

LIBERALS RULE! I have a bumper sticker that says: "Democrats are sexy...who ever heard of a nice piece of elephant?"

I've been rubbish at keeping up with blogs lately, which is why I didn't know last Saturday that you were the person in the stunning jacket.

i take things to heart as well. and as the sort of person who takes things to heart, people are afraid to tell me what they mean. often. it is so much better to learn bad things from a third party. no it stinks. i love your knitting. and i love the story of your pseudonym. you are like a charactar in a book yourself.

I take almost everything to heart too.
He is Canadian, and you are...?
