Albtraum

It's like a nightmare, where I knit and knit and knit but nothing ever gets finished. Whatever I have done to offend the knitting sprites, they've made me sorry now.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't seem to finish anything. Maybe the sprites forgive and forget.

Oh, those darn knitting sprites. I've had a Phildar pattern, and yarn, sitting in my stash for two years or more. The jumper features some lace at the top, and I couldn't figure the pattern out for the life of me. Swatch after swatch hit the floor in a fit of rage. I finally convinced superbrain maths wiz husband to help me out, who, after a mere five minutes, told me the chart must be printed wrong, as the numbers simply didn't add up. I was so grumpy that I had to wallow in the bath for half an hour before I cheered up. Whilst in the bath I had the magic moment of inspiration - just substitute their lace pattern for another. Did a quick few swatches and voila - a new jumper on the needles. But the fact that it took me two years to reach that conclusion - *shakes head and sighs*

If you find out how to get back in their good graces please let me know. I've apparently done something as well because I keep finishing things that won't fit. :(

Go have a cup of tea and try some more. That seems to help me!

I extend my sympathies--it's a place we all have to visit once in a while, but it's never fun!

A common ailment, I think. We're all infected.

Hello Anna:
Sorry to bother, but I have a question.
I am from Japan and have been doing leatherworking, mainly bagmaking, for over a year.
I have been wanting to improve my skills in patternmaking, and as I was surfing the net, I read your previous blog regarding your attending the short course "Pattern Cutting for Accessories" at London College of Fashion a few years ago.
I am trying to get some opinions and information to decide whether to sign up for the course this summer, and would greatly appreciate if you could give me some advice.

You mentioned that you saw some people from the Fashion Industry, but is the level of the course quite high? Or is it aimed at people of all levels?

What types of patterns are covered in the course? ex.) simple tote bags or more complicated handbags, etc.?

Are the accessories patterns mainly for leather accessories or of other materials?

Thank you very much for your time and I would appreciate it if you could help me out.
If this is too off the topic, please email me directly to my address: shemoaned@hotmail.com

But you appease the knitting sprites so regularly that you are permitted a little respite, I'd say.

I don't know which is worse: not progressing with one's knitting, or having to unravel one's knitting. That's where I am now.

Eeep! Do something to appease them, quick!

I can SO relate; am in the middle of a vest to be felted for my sweetie, and only just now remembering how I thought I would never, ever be done when I made a huge bag to be felted into a traveling duffel back last May and swore I wouldn't tackle large felting projects again. I have to remind myself what dear friend Margene frequently writes - it's the process.
