Thank you so much for all your good wishes on my announcement! It was especially good fun meeting all those who poked their heads up from behind the parapet to say hello for the first time, and I'd encourage you all to pipe up again in future!

I hope the crushing tiredness wears off soon. It's pouring with rain today - wonderful for the garden and wonderful knitting weather - and there are all manner of useful things with which I should be occupying myself, but all I can think of is how long I can hold out before my second nap of the day.

Oh the exhaustion! Its worse then the sickness isn't it? All I want to do is lie down and sleep all the time, all the day. Sadly duty calls. I hope yours lifts soon our Doctor here says it should, in the next few weeks (by 16 or 18). I'm keeping my fingers crossed... Good luck to you!

Friends of mine who have babies all tell me that they're the most tired during the first trimester and that it definitely gets better after. Congrats on the baby and the book! Can't wait to see the latter (and if it's not too creepy to say, the former too ;) ).

I was waiting to tell people I worked with I was pregnant until I hit 12 weeks. Well, needless to say they figured it out before then because I kept falling asleep at my desk and at lunch I would go out to my car to take a nap!

Posted by: P-la at June 16, 2007 04:02 PM

sleep sleep sleep sleep sleep! You will not have the chance again to sleep whenever you need to once the baby comes! I so needed naps during the first trimester but having a toddler I couldn't do it. Now, in the third trimester, I take the chance to nap whenever I can, in fact I'm just off for one now! Once there's a baby and a toddler in the house I won't be able to sneak off so easily so I'm making the most of it while I can!

Hope you feel better soon, it can be so irritating being so tired all the time, especially when you really want to be doing other things.

Enjoy those naps while you can because once they're here......I know everyone says it but it's true! It is perfect knitting weather, cuddle up on that sofa and knit, knit, knit. Cheers, Kirsty

Oh sleep! You obviously need it or you wouldn't be so tired(and you might not get the chance once 9 months are up). Perhaps you'll dream of wonderful knitwear designs....

Posted by: Alison at June 16, 2007 05:16 PM

Think of the tiredness as the flip side of how much energy you're giving to the baby when he or she needs it most.

Posted by: anne at June 16, 2007 05:26 PM

Congratulations!! When I was pregnant all I wanted to do was sleep, until the end when I couldn't sleep at all. I look forward to your book, I love your designs.

What wonderful news for you and Mr. Raitte! Congratulations.

Go nap now!!

Posted by: Laura at June 16, 2007 09:36 PM

I remember the sleepies. Your body is making a big adjustment right now and it knows what it needs. It won't let you do anything else. :-)

i know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies ... but, i do know good knitting weather! and i do know when i hear hobbit talk ... i suspect sometime there might be mention of second breakfast ?
cheers anna! you're going to be a great mommy!

Congratulations!

Something about pregnancy and sleep that just go together. Don't worry because you will have more than enough energy in a month or so . . . but that doesn't last. My sister is due *around* the same time, and she is constantly tired, so much so that she doesn't knit as much. Congrats and best of luck!

With all three of my kids, the tiredness left as soon as I was through the first trimester, almost to the day, it seemed! Hope yours does too. And as others have said, try to just get as much rest as you can. Dishes and housecleaning can wait a bit. ( Though I found that much easier said than done!)

My little one is going to turn one year old in a week... it's gone so fast. Congratulations to you! I can remember very easily how tired I was at first, too. I had to close my eyes as I walked around the neighborhood. zzzz. You will feel better and more energetic soon. Take care of yourself and get lots of rest!

Posted by: Karma at June 17, 2007 03:37 AM

You'll have more energy soon. But until then, take lots of naps! :)

Posted by: Romi at June 17, 2007 10:30 PM

3 children- 3 times sleepy first 3 months ;o) If you can do it- take your nap, you will need it. Your Baby needs it. Growing and building up is hard work ;)
Happy pregnancy from Germany, Eva *finished* (Samuel nearly 5 years, Luzia 2 1/2 and Teresa, cute 7 months old)

If you can get through the first trimester (and if you need more encouragement to do that by napping, I add mine!), you'll get your energy back, and then some, with luck. I got an amazing second wind halfway through my first pregnancy 14 years ago, and to this day I have more stamina than I did before I had children.

Good luck to you!

Nothing wrong with napping, I say (pregnant or not)! ;)

Congratulations Anna! I am so happy for you. I am behind on everything as I'm having trouble getting bloglines to pick up your new address, but wanted to let you know how thrilled I am to hear the news.

Your news is so good, many congratulations; and gosh yes, that tiredness! I always imagined that it must be akin to narcolepsy. I never felt my eyelids so heavy as those first few months.

Oooh all that lovely baby knitting ahead, my very favourite sort of knitting.

Congratulations, Anna, to you and Mr Raitt - how wonderful! Don't do too much - if you can help it! - and just enjoy this unique time. I'm so happy to see you're back blogging again, even if it's just for a little while! Hope all continues to go well for you.

Posted by: Lesley at June 18, 2007 08:51 PM

Don't forget that you are CONSTANTLY occupying yourself. You're building a new human after all. Hell - that calls for three naps a day!

Thanks for the Flicca pattern. Can't wait to order the yarn!!

Posted by: nuttnbunny at June 19, 2007 01:17 AM

A belated congrats (on both book and baby!) And: nap. while. you. can. Heck, two stepkids that someone else birthed tire me out. :-) (In a good way, I assure you!)

Posted by: Aura at June 19, 2007 03:14 AM

Fabulous congratulations - for both of your wonderful announcements!!! I feel tired just thinking of what you are doing... so I'll go and have a nap for you :-)

Posted by: Ewa at June 19, 2007 08:30 AM

Dear Anna,
I have been reading your blog sporadically for quite a while but I am not sure if I ever commented before. I decided to stop by today to see what you were up to these days and as I started reading I realized something momentous was underway so I read the previous entry and sure enough! I am sooooo happy for you Anna; I know you had talked before about wanting children so you and your husband must be thrilled. Please keep us posted as much as you can. Have you started knitting teeny tiny thingies?

Posted by: Monica E. at June 19, 2007 08:20 PM

Congratulations on the new addition to the family. I need a nap almost every day and I'm not even pregnant!

Posted by: Stephanie at June 20, 2007 03:28 AM

Naps are all manner of useful things. Especially when pregnant.

Posted by: Gwen at June 20, 2007 04:15 AM

Just give in. Sleep is good.

Also keep this in mind afterthe baby is born - it's a good rule. If you learn to nurse lying down you will be glad you did!

Posted by: Shannon B at June 20, 2007 05:36 PM

Oh my god!

I just saw the news and it's wonderful! I'm so happy for you. Congratulations!

Posted by: Emily S. at June 21, 2007 05:18 AM

Dont worry about the fatigue - absolutely normal - it wont last the whole 9 months - probaby just until you start to show - oh - you are going to be such a nice mum !!
