Care package
My Sockpal Suzanne spoiled me rotten, and her package could not have arrived at a better time. I literally gasped when I unwrapped these stunning socks (Cookie's Monkey pattern if I'm not mistaken), and I have been coveting this particular colour of Claudia's Handpainted since I saw it on Fidget's blog, a year ago. The socks really could not be more perfect for me. They fit beautifully, and there would be pictures to prove it except that my batteries died suddenly and prematurely.
The socks alone would have been more than enough but Suzanne threw in two MORE skeins of Claudia's (it's not a yarn I've come across in the UK, and so is extra special to me). I am tempted to make another pair of Monkeys, all for me, me, me!
A baby hat, looking just like the white aubergines at the farmers' market this weekend. A strange thing has happened to my perception: it used to be, on seeing baby clothes, that I would squeal words to the effect of 'Look how tiny!!'. Since baking my own little loaf, I now look at the same garments and think, 'Oh! How enormous!'
And at the risk of being superlative in my praise, even the retractable tape-measure arrived not even a full week since I broke my last one (with some over-vigorous measuring).
Suzanne, thank you so very, very much for such a thoughtful and precious package. I do not think anyone could be happier with their Sockapalooza experience than I. At a time when even deliveries of yarn have lost their thrill (each one means more unbloggable book work), you had me galloping upstairs to share my delight with Mr Raitte, admiring my sock-clad feet.
Stay tuned for ginormous baby knits!

That's a great package! And you did a great job conveying your excitement upon receiving it. I also liked your reversal from look how tiny to look how huge. Actually having to carry a baby really changes your perspective doesn't it? ;) Of course, I don't really know (yet).

Excellent. I'm glad that you aren't jaded by all that yarn! It means that there's still life in you yet. :)
Lovely stuff from your sockpal. You are very lucky.

Oooh, you made a haul! Beautiful! What shade of Claudia Handpainted is that???? It's really pretty.

I think you should give up that over-vigorous measuring until after the baby's born. You don't want to end up having to take bed-rest.

Thats a lovely package! The baby hat is so cute, I want to knit baby stuff but just need a babe to knit for, and no, I have my share of growing up ones so don't want any more!!!

What a haul! Lucky you! I also really like the socks that you sent to your sockpal and I am thinking of making some Twisted Flowers for myself. Will you be including baby patterns on your website? My daughter (14 months) could use some of your fashion genius. And by the way, I also found most baby clothes to be gigantic for a newborn. Three months is a very long time to have nothing to wear. Take care! MH

I am so pleased that you were pleased! I stressed over the lateness of the package, and before that I stressed over the emptiness of that package! I bought a tape measure for me too--I have a tough time finding them sometimes.
Glad you like it--the Claudia was lovely to work with, and it is dyed near me. You should enjoy it!

Your sockapalooza pal has just convinced me to cast on some monkeys! I've been seeing those all over the blog world for some months and have been tempted, but I just love them in that subtle coloring. what a package! What a pal!

I know The Wooly Workshop carries Claudia Handpainted. I believe they're in Northampton but they do have a website. Wonderful package!

I know what you mean about the shift in scale perception. Now that Z's nearing 4 yrs we're back on the other end of the spectrum. I look at those clothes of the past and think - how could he ever EVER been so tiny. And he was a 9.5 lb baby!!!

I love the phrase 'ginormous baby knits', what an image! I do think you want to make flexible baby togs, though, as they grow so very fast. I hope you are feeling wonderful.

Ooh, what a beautiful package! The socks look lovely, and I'm sure your little loaf will look wonderful in the new hat. Looking forward to seeing the baby knits! (You're right--I look at baby things and think, "How cute and teeny-tiny!" I'm sure one's perspective changes when one is pregnant.)

Ohhhhhh yes, the whole size-reversal thing! And to be honest, it's not so much that you're picturing yourself carrying around a huge baby, it's that you're picturing yourself DELIVERING a huge baby. You look at pictures and think oh GOSH how can anything be that tiny??? And then you squint again and think oh GOD can a newborn's head really be that huge, and how on earth can it ever fit, and........
....and then you just stop thinking about it because honestly - by that end point in time you're way past caring about the whole "how can it ever come out" thing and you're just so excited to finally (finally!!!) see and smell and nuzzle and hold and kiss your very own child that you kind of mentally shrug your shoulders and say "whatever".
But oh yes, the size reversal thing. I did it myself - in fact I still do - but now it's back the other way. How did my 7.18 oz baby every turn into a 38 pound two and a half year old????

Wonderful package! I do look forward to seeing tons of baby knits!

Ooh what colours!

Oh, a gorgeous package of stuff. And a lovely little hat especially. I had the same perception. The baby hats looked like something way too enormous to make their way...through...but in reality it works perfectly. Amazing.
