Loaf, baked!

stanley

Stanley John Alexander took us by surprise when he arrived 18 days early on 24th November.

Despite his best efforts to convince obstetricians and midwives to the contrary, he was found on the day to be breech and was delivered by emergency c-section at 2.32pm.

Stanley thanks you for noting his birth: for those with an interest in such things, a full account can be found here (scroll down and click on 'view full message').

With love to you all from

Anna and Stanley

Posted by: Linda at November 30, 2007 10:19 PM

Congratulations - he's beautiful, and well done on staying so with it through a birth that involved such a major change of plan. (And the thing you said about sleeping when the baby sleeps - not stalking you honest - I'm a sometime April 04 mum - you're spot on - the other thing people say, about letting guests look after you rather than trying to be a hostess - that's good advice too.)

Take it easy on yourselves, and enjoy him.

Anna, congratulations to you and Mr. Raite on the safe arrival of lovely Stanley. Your birth story brought tears to my eyes, too. All births have an element of the unexpected, which is why they make such compelling stories (at least to those of us who have been through, or are about to go through, the experience). The key is the happy ending, which your story certainly had! Best wishes to you all.

Congratulations! Stanley, what a wonderful name. Anna that was such a beautiful birth story - I teared up. I always tear up. I wanted to let you know that having Stanley skin to skin right after birth, how wonderful and lucky you are, your instincts. Wow. I had a c-section for my first and he was hustled off immediately. To be able to share that time - midwives call it the golden hour - how beautiful. And your song. I had my next baby at a birth center with a midwife, naturally and my youngest at home with a midwife. Congratulations again!

I've never really known anyone pregant before. Having seen you at a book signing the other week I thought I'd read your full story as it was so odd to think you are no longer as I saw you when we met, but thin and with child! I've never read anything so moving and it really made me appreciate something I'd often wrongly assumed I know so much about and from a human point of view. It has made me so much more positive about if and when I have children myself. I wish you and your son and husband good luck and happy times.

Way to go! He looks so perfect! Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy every fleeting second!

p.s. — C-Sections are a real bear (I speak from personal experience), but the key to healing quickly is to not watch a Monty Python marathon the first night home from the hospital. :)

Congratulations! He is gorgeous. And thank you - that is the first birth story I've read since finding out that I am pregnant and it was wonderful: just what I needed to remind me that one can't plan for every eventuality, and that in the end that's ok.

Posted by: jennifer at December 5, 2007 11:30 AM

Congratulation!!! Welcome to this world little baby

Posted by: Anastasia at December 5, 2007 12:22 PM

Congratulations to both you & Brad,
lovely reading your birth experience - I had 2 c-sections, first one also very unexpected - but in the end all that matters is a healthy baby!
Enjoy this precious time

Oh, I just went to your blog and saw your announcement ... Congratulations ... he is simply precious! Enjoy being a mom ... it's an adventure (I type as my 4 year old daughter is running laps around the house holding her twin brother's pants and he is racing after her in hot pursuit, pantless!)

Posted by: Anne at December 10, 2007 11:31 PM

He is beautiful. It's a coincidence that both our little boys were breech. I hope you are recovering well from your operation. I love the name.

What a fantastic story...you are an incredible writer! It was so lovely to hear your news after meeting you at the book signing in Loop. What a dramatic entrance to the world little Stanley! Well done Anna for being so instinctive in all the activity...holding your baby to you and singing softly the song he knew. I wish you, your husband, and Stanley all the joy in the world as you start on this new and incredible journey.
